Electroplating of jewellery and small metal objects.
Gold and silver plating, and more
In the Van Ranst electroplating department, we take care of the finishing of jewellery and small metal objects. You can come to us for gold plating, silver plating, rhodium plating and nickel plating, from a unique piece or prototype to a complete collection.
We work for jewellers, goldsmiths, jewellery designers and other professional clients, and are happy to help you choose the right finish.

Gold plating jewellery in 18 or 14 carat gold.
For gold plating jewellery, we offer several gold colours: 18 carat yellow gold with its warm, rich look, 14 carat gold, which is slightly lighter and softer in colour, and 18 carat rose gold plating.
We gold-plate bronze and precious metals such as silver and gold. Steel cannot be gold-plated with our electroplating process.
How do you determine the number of microns for your jewellery?
The more intensively a piece of jewellery is worn, the more important the layer thickness becomes. Not sure which thickness suits best? We are happy to advise you.

Silver plating, rhodium plating and nickel plating.
Silver plating
With silver plating, we give jewellery and small metal objects a fresh, bright silver colour. It is a nice way to give a suitable surface the look of silver, or to refresh it.
Rhodium plating of silver and gold jewellery
Rhodium plating gives jewellery a bright, white and polished finish and can be applied to both silver and gold jewellery. Rhodium gives a slightly greyer effect than silver plating. On silver jewellery, a rhodium layer also has the advantage that the silver tarnishes less quickly, so it keeps its fresh look longer.
Nickel plating of small objects
Nickel plating is also one of our options. We apply it to small objects that do not come into direct contact with the skin, such as certain buttons, brooches and other metal parts.
What can we electroplate?
Our electroplating department specialises in jewellery, fine components and small metal objects. Think of rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets and jewellery components, but also medals, pins, badges, cufflinks, buttons and small decorative objects.
We treat individual pieces as well as series and collections.
How do you deliver jewellery for electroplating?
A beautiful result starts with a well-prepared surface. That is why we ask you to deliver pieces fully finished, polished and cleaned.

Points of attention for a good result
Gold plating does not hide imperfections
Gold plating is a thin layer of colour that follows the existing surface. Scratches, pits, polishing marks and other imperfections are not removed during the process and remain visible afterwards. A well-polished, even surface is therefore the best basis for a high-quality finish.
Watch out for porosity in castings
Check cast jewellery carefully for porosity, small pits and tiny holes. Make sure castings are properly and carefully finished. Where suitable, planishing or hammering the piece can help to further compact the surface. Porous pieces can cause local dark spots.
Deliver pieces clean and free of residues
Pieces must be delivered thoroughly cleaned and free of varnish, lacquer, glue, polishing compound and other residues. Residues on the surface can affect the adhesion and evenness of the plated layer.
We cannot electroplate hollow pieces
We cannot electroplate hollow pieces or objects with enclosed spaces where liquid can remain, such as chains with hollow beads or settings with a closed base into which liquid can enter through small openings. If liquid remains in such a cavity, the piece cannot be treated properly. Ideally, take this into account during the design and production of the jewellery.
